I trained as a surface pattern designer and worked in the printed textile industry as a designer for 5 years before setting off on a voyage of discovery to Asia and other parts of the world. A lot of my design inspiration comes from travelling as it's an inherent part of my lifestyle. Regularly finding myself in different, sometimes unfamiliar, environments helps me to see things that I might ordinarily miss or otherwise take for granted. I include these observations in my work, whether they are simply paint splashes on a wall in Malaysia, surface details of a temple in Laos, or simply trails of leaves in Southern China. I enjoy the design challenge of weaving complex images so that they seamlessly repeat and I put this skill to work in the designs for larger products in my collections, such as duvet covers and lengths of fabric.
