Über mich/uns

I've always carried a fascination with the narrative power of images with me. For years growing up I immersed myself in the wonderful puply pages of the comic book, emulating what I found there with my own pencil and paper. I loved the way that a series of boxes and drawings with a few words here and there could transport you into a completely unique and powerful world. I wanted to be able to do the same thing. I wanted to be a comic book artist. As I grew older my love for the graphic panels never diminished, but my knowledge and scope of the arts grew. I realized there was far more out there and discovered some really wonderful artists that had a profound affect on me, my perspectives, and my work. As this evolution occurred I began to shift from a desire to be an illustrator to a desire to be a practicing fine artist. And then I tried creating short stories. This is when it all came together for me. As I was writing I came to realize that what I was doing was no different than drawing or painting, except for the medium in which I was expressing my creation. I looked back at all those years of combining words and pictures as a young artist making my own comic books and thought, "Why not tell a story?" It is from this viewpoint that I now develop the artworks I create. I want to tell a story with every image. I see the titles of my works as opening lines to allow the viewer to become a part of the storytelling experience. I want them to wonder, "what happened before this?" and "where is the story going from here?" I want the viewer to bring their own perspectives and storytelling ideas to the viewing experience.
