Born in Srinagar, Kashmir, Rafia Syeed grew up in a valley hugged by Himalayan peaks and in a city cut by intricate canals leading to the famed Dal Lake. She imbues her brush with a deep love of nature's beauty to create lush ink landscapes and wildlife profiles. Rafia spent several years in Kashmir as a Persian literature professor and decades in the U.S. running education, social service and interfaith programs. She is the mother of six, grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of one, based in the Washington, D.C. area. Her original paintings are available for exhibition and purchase. In addition, printed copies of her work come in the form of cards and posters. She also offers demonstrations on Chinese brush painting and is available for commissioned pieces.
