James Simon Wallis Hunt 1947 – 1993 The 1976 F1 season proved to be one of the most dramatic and controversial on record. Now a works McLaren driver, Hunt dispelled all doubters at the first race in Brazil, where, in a hastily rebuilt McLaren M23, he landed pole position. Over the course of the year he would drive the McLaren M23 against Niki Laudas Ferrari 312T to six Grands Prix wins. When his greatest rival, Niki Lauda, had a serious accident on August 1st at the Nürburgring, James Hunt became Formula 1 World Champion in that dramatic year. The 1976 F1 battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt was dramatized in the film Rush. The picture shows Hunt‘s original 1976 helmet design in black color with the typical red, blue and yellow stripes.
