Fw 190 D-9 (Oskar Romm) Poster

Born on 18 December 1919 in Haindorf, Germany, Oskar Romm was a Luftwaffe fighter ace during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Romm was first deployed to the Eastern Front in September of 1942 with 1./JG51. Romm served with distinction as a "Mölder," earning 76 aerial victories while assigned to the outfit. Following a transfer to JG3 in 1944, he would claim an additional 16 victories before the end of the war. His final posting would be as Gruppenkommandeur of IV./JG 3 while holding the rank of Oberleutnant. Romm was wounded performing an emergency landing on 24 April 1945 following a confrontation with a squadron of Il-2 Sturmoviks over Szczecin, Poland ending his career as a fighter pilot. He was credited with 92 aerial victories. Oskar Romm survived the war and died on 1 May 1993 at 73 years of age.
