"Unseelie Court: Death" Postkarte

The third painting in series I'm debuting called "The Unseelie Court" - specifically for the subset inspirred by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - this is the piece I painted "live" as a demostration at my gallery at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. Each painting in my Unseelie Court series depicts wichtige individuals or families within the Unseelie Court. Exploring the darker side of the Fairy Court, the Unseelie faeries take their theming from slightly unpleasant aspects of the magical and natural world. But of course despite being wicked they will have a beautiful and refinded elegance about them. This specilar painting in the series symbolizes "Death". I tried to use a variety of death imagery from many culture and centuries past - pre-Columbian Central American carvings, Egyptian Book of the Dead, medieval/renaissance Europe and beyond (her scythe has a unterscheicly contemporary video game feel..) So many great references in this one, really speaks to the Art History nerd in me (especially Saturn Eating His Children in her skirts, and the Burial at Ornans funeral).
