One answer to the annoying political theater that is the repeated debt ceiling crisis is to mint a one trillion dollar platinum coin and deposit it into the United States Treasury. Since the government can mint unlimited money, this would decouple paying federal bills from the annual budget negotiations. It may sound silly, but minting such as coin could protect the full faith and credit of the U. S. currency by bypassing the debt limit, but will still allowing Congress to haggle over the actual spending authorization.
