Entitlement is Not a Handout

The term entitlement have been turned into a pejorative in recent years by those who are politically opposed to government spending on social needs. Contrary to what some say, entitlement is not synonymous with handout. It actually means having a right to something. Social Security and Medicare are entitlements because the recipients have earned their benefits through taxes they paid on their earned income.
