Buchanan Auld House Gifts For The Buchanan Clan
Buchanans around the world can enjoy unique gifts that celebrate their ancient Scottish heritage and its history. Members of the Buchanan clan of Scotland include about 50 septs and can trace their linage over 1,000 years, according to the clan's website. With the arrival of DNA, a connection with the Gregor clan has been traced to about 400 C.E. Their lands were around Loch Loman. Back in the 13th century land on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond was granted to clergyman Sir Absalon of Buchanan by the Earl of Lennox and may be the first time Buchanan appears in modern records. For more than 300 years the clan was without a chief. However, in 2018 John Michael Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan, 60, who owns Cambusmore Estate near Callander was announced as chief. Apparently, genealogist Hugh Peskett worked about 5 decades to locate the chief and steer his findings through the necessary steps for official recognition. The clan's historic home is the ruins of Buchanan Auld House, located in Stirlingshire, Scotland. After centuries of involvement in Scotland’s politics and wars, the direct chiefly line failed in 1682.The estate was sold to the Graham clan and continues to be owned by Grahams. Buchanan Auld House was destroyed in a fire in 1852, and the photograph is of the interior of the courtyard formed by the ruins of Buchanan Auld House. After the fire, Buchanan Castle was built on the site, but, ironically, no Buchanans have lived in it.
